GRIDLEY, Calif. — October 31, 2026. Gridley residents will gather on Sunday to remember loved ones and celebrate Mexican cultural traditions at the city’s sixth annual Día de los Muertos event.
The community celebration is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Daddow Plaza in Gridley. Local event listings confirm that admission is free.
What is planned?
Explore Butte County’s event guide describes a community ofrenda, or memorial altar, at the plaza gazebo. Families are invited to bring photographs of people they wish to remember. The listing identifies large handmade alebrijes by artist Lucia Chavez, decorative displays featuring monarch butterflies and sugar skulls, a performance by Gridley’s Barefoot Dance Company and a Las Catrinas costume contest.
Food vendors and community information booths are also expected, including local service organizations. Free admission does not necessarily mean food or vendor products are free.
More than a Halloween event
Día de los Muertos is a tradition centered on remembrance and connection with deceased family members. Although celebrations take place around Halloween, the two observances have different histories and cultural meanings.
Visitors can participate respectfully by learning about the symbols, following organizers’ instructions for placing photographs and allowing families space at the memorial altar.
The published event listings do not provide a detailed parking plan or weather contingency. Residents should check for updates before traveling and should not assume all activities run throughout the full five-hour festival.
